Vodka and Coke is one of those cocktails that’s super simple, totally satisfying, and always easy to throw together. With just two ingredients, it’s the kind of drink you can make in minutes—no fancy tools or prep required.
Similar to the classic rum and coke cocktail, the Cuba Libre, the flavor of the vodka pairs perfectly with the fizzy sweetness of Coca-Cola, creating a simple, refreshing cocktail. I've worked out the perfect ratio of alcohol to cola, but it’s also super easy to customize if you like it stronger, sweeter, or with a fun twist.

Ingredients Notes
This easy drink is hardly a craft cocktail. It is what bartenders call a "1 and 1". It is so simple it hardly requires a recipe, except to know the ratio of 1 part vodka to 2 parts cola.
- Coke - Coca-Cola is a carbonated soft drink made of coca leaves and kola nuts (its source of caffeine). But it has become more commonly known as "coke". Coke comes in many different variations and flavors such as black cherry, vanilla, and ginger. You can use any type you prefer best to make this recipe - including diet versions such as Diet Coke and Coke Zero. Or if you're a Pepsi person, swap out the Coke for an equal measure of your favorite Pepsi variety.
- Vodka - Vodka is composed mainly of water and ethanol and is neutral in flavor. In fact, the flavor of the alcohol is mostly hidden by the sweetness of the cola in this cocktail. Therefore, you can use any vodka you like.

Expert Tips
- This Vodka Coke recipe is for one serving. If you’re hosting a crowd, you can multiply the ingredients by the number of guests and make the drink in a punch bowl or jug.
- This cocktail is best enjoyed as soon as it is made as it will lose some of its carbonation over time. So it is best to serve this drink soon after making it.
- The classic Vodka Coke ratio is 2 to 1. But if you like a boozier drink feel free to add additional vodka or reduce the amount of coca-cola in each serving.
- You can serve this drink with crushed ice or whole ice. Just keep in mind that as the ice melts it will start to slightly dilute the drink.

Cocktail Variations
It is really easy to jazz up this simple vodka and coke cocktail. By just adding one other flavor component, you can make all kinds of variations to the recipe. Or even pair two flavors together. The combinations are endless!
- Use flavored vodka. Vodka is available in a wide variety of flavors and using one of them is an easy way to add an extra kick of flavor to your drink. Many people like vanilla vodka in this cocktail.
- Use flavored coke. Coca-cola comes in a wide variety of flavors that are all delicious when paired with vodka. Cherry coke is my favorite substitute - but any flavor will do!
- Add cocktail bitters. Add a few shakes of bitters to make the best vodka and coke ever. Cocktail bitters are liqueurs that add intriguing and complex flavors to cocktails as they’re made with lots of herbs and spices.
- Add flavored syrups. A dash of flavored syrup is a simple way to add extra flavor to your drink. I even like using grenadine or vanilla extract too!
- Add ice cream. Who doesn't love a coke float?! So why not make an adult version by adding a scoop of vanilla ice cream to your vodka and coke? It turns it into a delicious alcoholic treat!
- Muddle in fresh berries. Try adding your favorite berries, or a combination of berries, to your next vodka coke. Simply lightly muddle the berries in your glass before adding your ice, vodka, and coke.
- Add fresh herbs. Adding fresh herbs to a cocktail is a quick way to give it an aromatic boost. I like using fresh mint but you could also try fresh thyme or even lavender.
- Use a different type of cola. Although I find coca cola to be best, you can also make this drink with other colas, such as Pepsi.
