Tequila and Sprite is one of those cocktails made with just two simple ingredients that just works. The crisp, lemon-lime flavor of Sprite pairs perfectly with tequila’s bold agave flavor, creating a refreshing cocktail that’s light, bubbly, and easy to make. Think of it as a laid-back twist on a classic margarita with no shaker, no fuss, just pour over ice and enjoy.
This tequila soda cocktail is super versatile, making it a hit for casual hangouts, summer parties, or even a festive Cinco de Mayo celebration. Whether you’re poolside, hosting friends, or just winding down at the end of the day, tequila and Sprite is the kind of drink that feels fun, refreshing, and always crowd-friendly.

Best Tequilas to Mix with Sprite
There are so many different types of tequila you could use in this recipe. I love using tequila reposado but this all comes down to personal preference. Since this simple cocktail one uses two ingredients, it's important to choose a good tequila with a flavor you enjoy.
- Blanco (Silver) Tequila: Crisp, clean, and all about the agave, blanco tequila is the classic choice for a tequila and Sprite. Its fresh flavor keeps the drink light and refreshing. It's perfect for when you want something simple and easy to sip.
- Reposado Tequila: Aged just a few months in oak barrels, reposado brings in a little extra depth with soft notes of vanilla and caramel. It’s still smooth and agave-forward, but with a touch of richness that makes your tequila and Sprite feel a bit more elevated.
- Añejo Tequila: With at least a year in oak, añejo tequila is smooth, rich, and layered with oak and caramel flavors. While many enjoy it neat, adding it to a tequila and Sprite creates a cocktail that’s still refreshing but has a more complex, rounded finish.
- Extra Añejo Tequila: Aged three years or more, extra añejo is the most luxurious type of tequila. It's silky, bold, and full of oak, spice, and caramel notes. It’s not your everyday mixer, but if you want to dress up a simple tequila and Sprite, this is the way to make it feel downright indulgent.

How to Make a Tequila and Sprite Cocktail
This easy cocktail recipe is mixed right in a highball glass. As long as you know the correct ratio it's easy to make a big batch for your next party as well. I always stick to the 1-to-2 ratio, that's one part tequila to two parts Sprite.
- Step 1: Fill a tall glass with ice.
- Step 2: Add a shot, or two, of your favorite tequila and top with sprite.
- Step 3: Add a squeeze of lime juice and garnish with fresh lime slices and a sprig of mint if desired.

Cocktail Variations
The great thing about tequila is that it pairs beautifully with many other flavors. Here are a few of our favorite ideas for elevating this easy two ingredient drink:
- Citrus Twist: Squeeze fresh lime juice or fresh lemon juice into the drink to enhance the citrus flavors of the soda. You can add a splash of orange juice for an extra burst of fruitiness.
- Tequila Smash: Muddle a handful of fresh berries, such as strawberries, raspberries, or blueberries, in the bottom of the glass before adding the tequila and Sprite. This infusion of fruity flavors will take your cocktail to the next level.
- Spicy Kick: For a touch of heat, add a few slices of jalapeño or a dash of hot sauce to the drink. The combination of the spicy kick and the sweet Sprite can create a tantalizing contrast of flavors.
- Bubbly Upgrade: Swap Sprite with a sparkling lemon-lime soda or a flavored sparkling water to add effervescence and subtle fruity flavors to your cocktail. It can create a lighter and more refreshing variation.
- Frozen Twist: Blend tequila, Sprite, ice cubes, and a squeeze of citrus juice together to create a frozen version of the cocktail. This slushy treat is perfect for hot summer days or tropical-themed parties.
- Less Sweet: Replace regular Sprite with diet Sprite or club soda for a less sweet version of this bubbly cocktail.
