Mango Strawberry Smoothie

Jump to Recipe Print Recipe

This mango strawberry smoothie is as pretty as it is delicious—and it only takes about 5 minutes to make. It’s made with frozen fruit, banana, creamy Greek yogurt, and a hint of honey for just the right amount of sweetness.

One of my favorite things about this creamy smoothie is the layered vibrant colors. It might seem fancy, but it’s actually super simple to put together.

Both mango and strawberries add a bright, fruity flavor, and they blend up into the perfect creamy texture. Whether you're making it for breakfast, an afternoon snack, or just because it’s hot outside, this smoothie is a total treat that happens to be packed with Vitamin C.

Ingredient Notes

This easy fruit smoothie recipe uses just a handful of simple ingredients that can be found in any grocery store. I've used a blend of almond milk and coconut milk, but you can substitute your favorite dairy or plant-based milk.

Ingredients for a mango strawberry smoothie on a concrete counter.
  • Mango - Fresh or frozen mango chunks work here. For the best flavor, buy fresh mangoes the day before, cut them into cubes and place them in the freezer overnight.
  • Strawberries - I prefer to buy fresh strawberries and freeze them myself.  I feel like they have a little more flavor than store-bought frozen berries, but either will work here.
  • Yogurt - Use thick Greek yogurt or for a vegan option, try coconut yogurt instead.

See the recipe card below for full ingredient list with measurements.

Substitutions & Variations

  • Make a Vegan Strawberry Mango Smoothie - Replace the Greek yogurt with a vegan Greek yogurt or coconut yogurt and use maple syrup for the sweetener.
  • Coconut Yogurt - Instead of using thick greek yogurt, try coconut yogurt for a more delicious tropical flavor.
  • Pineapple - Add a little pineapple juice or frozen pinapple to your mango layer for an extra bit of tropical sweetness.
  • Chia Seeds - To thicken up the smoothie even more, add a teaspoon of chia seeds to the strawberry smoothie layer.
  • Protein Powder - For a high-protein mango banana smoothie, add a scoop of vanilla protein powder to either layer.
  • Coconut flakes - Top this beauty of a smoothie with toasted coconut flakes for a little extra crunch.

How to make a Mango Strawberry Smoothie

The best thing about fruit smoothies is that they only take a few minutes to make and are oh-so delicious on a hot Summer day. This mango banana strawberry smoothie is no different.

Frozen mango, banana, coconut milk and honey in a blender jar.

STEP 1: Combine the frozen mango, banana, coconut milk and honey in a high-speed blender.  Blend until smooth.  Pour into your serving glasses, filling halfway.

STEP 2: Clean the blender.  Then add the strawberries, yogurt, almond milk and honey.  Blend until smooth.

STEP 3: Carefully pour the strawberry smoothie over the mango layer to get that separated look. Or if you prefer, you can swirl them together.

Expert Tips

  • Use good quality mango. The fruit is what gives this tropical smoothie its flavor. So making sure that the mango used is ripe and sweet will have a great impact on the taste of the smoothie.
  • Use frozen fruit. Using frozen fruit will ensure you have a delicious, creamy, ice-cream like smoothie. Using fresh fruits will give you a more watery, juice-like consistency.
  • Adjust your liquid. Start by adding only some of the liquid and add more until you reach the desired consistency. I prefer a thicker smoothie, but everyone has their own preference when it comes to smoothies.  If you like a thinner smoothie, you may want to add a little bit more milk.
  • Don't let it stand. Drink it up right away. If you let it stand around for too long, the fruits will melt and possibly separate. For the most delicious results, make sure to drink it sooner rather than later.

Recipe FAQs

What is the best base for a smoothie?

Frozen bananas are typically the best base for a smoothie because they create an incredibly creamy texture. Other bases that work well are mangos, avocados and even cauliflower.

How do you thicken smoothies?

Using frozen fruit instead of fresh fruit will instantly thicken up your smoothie. To add more thickness, add a tablespoon of chia seeds or a pinch of xanthan gum for a really thick and delicious smoothie.
