Pumpkin Spice Smoothie

Jump to Recipe Print Recipe

Say hello to your new favorite, easy Fall breakfast treat. This pumpkin spice smoothie tastes like a slice of pumpkin pie in a glass - it will cure all of your pumpkin spice cravings!

We love everything spice at my house, so this creamy smoothie recipe was a big hit.  It's filled with real pumpkin puree, yogurt and bananas for an extra creamy texture, just the right amount of warm fall spices and a touch of maple syrup to sweeten things up.  It only takes 5 minutes to make, so it's the perfect grab and go breakfast for a pumpkin spice lover.

If you're all about the pumpkin spice flavors, make a batch of my homemade pumpkin spice syrup.  It makes the perfect pumpkin spice latte!

Ingredient Notes

This pumpkin pie smoothie recipe uses just a few simple ingredients that you can find in any grocery store.

Ingredients for a pumpkin spice smoothie sitting on a marble counter.
  • Banana - I recommend using frozen banana to make this smoothie thick and creamy.  When I have uneaten bananas on the counter, I peel them and stick them in a container in the freezer so they're ready to go whenever I need them. If you don't have frozen bananas on hand, you can use a fresh banana and add a few ice cubes.
  • Yogurt - You can use your favorite type of yogurt in this recipe.  I used a dairy free yogurt, but plain Greek yogurt would also be a great choice.
  • Pumpkin Purée - Make sure to use real pumpkin puree, not pumpkin pie filling.  You can make your own pumpkin puree or use canned pumpkin. This recipe is a great way to use up a little leftover pumpkin puree.
  • Milk - Use milk of choice - either plant-based milks or whole milk will work fine. I used coconut milk in mine.
  • Vanilla - Vanilla extract enhances the flavors and adds a little hint of sweetness.  If you're using either vanilla yogurt or vanilla flavored milk, you can omit this ingredient.
  • Cinnamon & Pumpkin Pie Spice - Even though pumpkin pie spice already contains cinnamon, I like to add a little extra to really bring out the flavor in this smoothie.  Note: If you're outside of the US, pumpkin pie spice is called Mixed Spice.
  • Maple Syrup - I have used a little bit of pure maple syrup to sweeten this recipe.  Not much sweetener is needed because of the sweetness of the bananas.  If you don't want to use maple syrup, brown sugar would be a great addition.

Variations

Here are some suggestions for different ways you can customize this smoothie recipe:

  • Add a scoop of protein powder
  • Add a scoop of collagen powder
  • Add a tablespoon of chia seeds
  • Add a tablespoon of hemp seeds or hemp hearts
  • Add a couple of tablespoons of almond butter or peanut butter
  • Reduce the milk and make it a smoothie bowl.  Top with nuts, granola or fresh fruit.

How to Make a Pumpkin Spice Smoothie

Like most of my smoothie recipes, this recipe is so simple to make.

Ingredients for a pumpkin spice smoothie inside of a blender.

  • STEP 1: Add all of the ingredients to a high speed blender.  Puree until it reaches a smooth consistency.  If you like it a little thinner, add more milk until it reaches your desired consistency.
  • STEP 2: Pour the smoothie into two glasses and enjoy!

Garnish Suggestions

  • A sprinkle of cinnamon or pumpkin spice
  • A few pumpkin seeds or cacao nibs on top
  • A dollop of whipped cream for an extra special treat!
  • You could even sprinkle a few cookie crumbs on top to give you that pie crust feel.
